Comment by Karen Needles on January 22, 2011 at 7:47pm I would like to introduce teachers to the Lincolnarchives Digital Project, located at www.lincolnarchives.us. This digital project is in the process of digitizing the federal records housed in the National Archives, which were created during the Lincoln administration. Every document created March 4, 1861-April 15, 1865 is being scanned in color, and transcribed to create fully searchable primary sources for teachers to use in the classroom.
There are also over 30 video podcasts available online for teachers and students. An interactive timeline, with audio, video, photographs and documents highlight Lincoln's life.
There are currently over 14,000 documents, newspapers, photographs, maps, etc. online. Records from the State, Treasury, Justice, War, etc. with topics cover courts martials, pardon cases, suppresion of the press, the slave trade, Lincoln's assassination, records of generals and reports of battles, military and pension records, enlistment papers, provide a rich resource for Civil War to compliment your curriculum.
This project is funded solely by subscriptions. Rates are $35 per month. Subscriptions can be purchased on a monthly basis or an annual basis.
