Jeff Williams's Blog

befunky.com puts the FUN in funky!

Last week I was looking at my avatar I use for sites, such as Broward byte, Posterous, Facebook, NCSS Ning et al, and I started feeling that I really needed a face-lift... so to speak.

So, I did a search for "avatar maker" and after some searching, came across Be Funky. Be Funky lets you add several different effects onto your photo to change the look. Now its more than just an… Continue

Recession: Good AND Bad for Tech

Web 2.0 is a term which I am getting extremely tired of hearing. Don't get me wrong, I love what Web 2.0 has done for education (and me personally). In fact, Web 2.0 has done more for revolutionizing American education than Mr. Bennet could ever have dreamed back in 1983. Because of Web 2.0 classroom tools - FREE tools not to mention - teachers all over the country world are using some… Continue

Innovation and Creativity: Some Thoughts

I am copying this post from my blog because I think it is appropriate for this group of educators; educators who don't care about how much time it takes to learn a new program, or tool, in order to get across an important concept to their students who may have been having trouble learning. Why are we using tech in our classes? A lot of it has to do with creativity, and I believe that is one of the magic ingredients to happiness and fulfillment in your job AND in your life.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm currently not in the classroom this year - as an instructional coach, I work with all teachers at my high school to help develop curriculum and assessments - although social studies is still my speciality since I was a social studies teacher for 6 years. When I was in the classroom, I taught American History, Government, Current Events, and a class called Thesis which is a social studies research class for juniors. I am also currently Vice President of the Ohio Council for the Social Studies.

I actually am not a teacher anymore, left after 23 years of middle and high school social studies, mostly American history and government. I now work for Milestone Documents. We have reference book sets, iPhone apps, and a website called Milestonedocuments.com. We combine the full text of primary source documents with expert analysis of the documents in sets pertaining to American History, American Leaders, World History (out in 1/10), and two more sets later in 2010.
